SHE'S ONE OF US- CHAPTER 08

The Lunch !!

That was a Sunday .To share her happiness and to reciprocate her affection. Shree and family invited Sai for lunch. Her mom  made  the lunch. Shree and Akhila helped  her. Everything was ready. The whole family was waiting for Sai. Shree was very eager for his arrival. Her eyes were on the entrance door . She was expecting him so much. She heard the sound of his bike. She rushed outside to welcome him. Great disappointment and that was not Sai.  It was a strange young man who came to ask about an address which he was searching for.  The young man just  didn't expect a beautiful girl in that house. He was stunned and fixed his gaze on Shree.
Shree didn't like that guy. He kept looking Shree and showed a piece of paper and asked "May I know where is this address?". When he asked,  Shree looked at the paper,  But the guy was observing her. When Shree looked at him, he stepped one step back and whispered to himself "Phew.. What an eyes" . Shree heard those words and was shocked and exploded "W..ha.t???". He bewildered and said  "Nothing". Shree stared at him and in a harsh way "I don't know the address. Please ask the person next door". The guy didn't hear Shree and he was smiling at her. Shree waived her hands in front of his face and shouted "Heloo... Here is your paper. Take it.." and went inside annoyed whispering "Nonsense". The guy left the place. 

It was already half an hour late for the lunch. Shree couldn't wait because she was hungry. She kept both her hands on either of her cheeks and closed her eyes. After a few minutes, A hand pulled her hands over her cheeks. She opened her eyes. Sai was smiling in front of her. Though she was happy, she pretended as  if she was angry at him.  But she couldn't resist asking why he was late and also said that she didn't hear his bike. Sai replied "My Bike got some minor problems
and I left  it in a mechanic shop and came in bicycle and that was the reason for coming me late". She said "Oh !Okay! Come lets have the lunch". The tasty lunch was offered by Shree's Mom and the whole family was having the lunch. Sai ate little and he was very slow as he had a  heavy breakfast. Shree's mom asked him whether he liked the lunch. Before Sai opened his mouth to answer, Shree answered "How he likes vegetarian food being a non-vegetarian". Sai was silent, finished the lunch and washed his hands. Akhila said Sai "Excuse me please. I want to meet a friend and I'll come after an hour". Sai said "You want me to drop you". Akhila said "Fine if you drop me in the bus stop". Sai dropped Akhila and came back. Shree and Sai was sitting in the room facing each other smiling.  Shree asked about the lunch. He said it was good and said "I don't eat non- vegetarian till you finish your under graduation though it is my favorite". 
Sai thought not to tell this to Shree. But something made him tell this to her. She was puzzled. Sai added "When you were struggling for the seat , I don't know what to do. I went to the temple to pray for you and  I heard some words from an old lady saying that, if we sacrifice what we like we would get  what we wish and that made him to decide this". That was an unexpected answer from Sai. Shree felt very bad that she mocked at him while having lunch. 
Her lips asked "Sorry", But her mind was thinking something else. Sai said "Do not ponder.It's nothing"  and added "What your friends commented  on  your bag" .  Shree was excited and said "Everybody said the bag suits me very much  and it was too good and Mona conveyed her regards to you and she said she will come one day to meet you".  Sai smiled and said "Oh ya . It's long time we met. Okay let me know when she comes". Shree nodded her head.  Shree said "I shall keep this bag safe and For all three years , I won't change my bag. This bag is so close to my heart " and hugged the bag. Sai smiled and saw a paper on the table. Sai took it and read it.  It was a flim song written in pencil by Shree. Sai asked "What is this for?". Shree said "I'll tell you tomorrow". Sai said  "I can guess but it is always interesting when I hear from you. Okay See you tomorrow". Shree said "Okay. Bye". Sai said to Mom "Amma ! Bye". Mom said "See you tomorrow".

Shree's Song for Shiba!

The Next day Shree was humming a song. She started to the college and on the way she continued her humming. In the college ,Prayer was over . Everyone went to the class .The lab assistant came to the class and informed everyone to assemble in the physics lab after 10 minutes. It was a departmental activity  conducted once in a month in the physics department. It is an oppurtunity for the students to exibit their talents like singing ,dancing ..so and so.
Shree kept silent. Priya and Shiba were good at singing. Shiba murmured to Priya "Yesterday ,I saw Shree giving her name to the lecturer for singing. Ask her what she going to sing". Priya said "Shiba. Why not you ask her?". Shiba said "I can't talk and praise her as you do .Infact I even don't like you praising or appreciating her". Priya blinked and asked "Why? She is good Shiba". Shiba said "No Priya. What you think about Shree is totally wrong. She has lot of pride that she is beautiful and  She acting too smart and thinks too much of herself as she got very high marks in 12th standard". Priya raised her eyebrows and shook her shoulders lethargically 
and said "I don't think so". Shiba challenged Priya that she will soon get to know Shree's original character.  But Shiba couldn't control asking Shree about the song.
She asked "Shree , What is the song you going to sing? ". Shree said "Shiba, You can hear the song when I sing, I won't tell you". Priya chuckled. Shiba starred  at Priya and whispered "Look how she is answering. She is full of head weight". Shiba stressed again to Shree "I am asking this because , me and Priya have prepared a song which we are going to sing together and I am very  concerned that the same song should not be repeated". Shree said "That's fine if the song is repeated" and  turned to Mona. Shiba's eye balls came out of anger. Priya giggled. Shree realized Shiba was upset and she turned to Shiba and said "You need to know the song? . Right! I won't tell you but will sing you" and added "Come near me, I can't sing loud in the class". Shiba with excitement "okay okay.." . Priya and Shiba came near Shree. Shree laughed inside. Shree pitied Shiba as she decided to tease her. Mona understood Shree and was eagerly waiting what is going  to happen. Shiba said Shree "Girl .Come on sing". 
Shree cleared her throat, and started shouting in a harsh voice "Oh Lord !Oh Lord !oh Lord....". Priya closed her ears and ran outside. Mona started laughing loudly.  Shiba stepped one step back and said "Stop it". The whole class was puzzled. Shiba was annoyed and said "It's my mistake that I asked you to sing". Shree controlled her laughter and with an innocent face "Why are you hurting me. Is my voice not good?". Shiba was very angry and said "Stop pretending, After hearing your voice, Priya disappeared. We need to search where she is". Mona laughed and said "It's time to go. Come lets go". Shree said Shiba "I was just kidding" and grabbed  Shiba's hands. Shiba starred at Shree and said "Take your hands off from me". Shree smiled "Okay , No issues" and grabbed Mona's hand. They all went to the lab. 
Students from  first ,second and third year sat in row wise. Shiba was nervous. Shiba saw Shree sitting casualy talking and laughing. Shiba whispered to Priya " She shouted like a donkey, Look her ! She is sitting with full confidence". Priya said "Leave that. Come lets discuss our song". The programme started. They called Shiba and Priya to perform first. Both went and started singing. Shiba in between noticed Shree's response and reaction for their singing. Shree raised her eyebrows and shook her body and head. Priya smiled. The song was over and everyone gave a loud applause. Shree got ready , But the next person to perform was a second year girl .That was a dance performance. Dance was over. The next one was Shree. Mona and Priya applauded when she went and stood infront. Shiba starred at Priya and said "Stop clapping. Let  her sing first". Shiba closed her ears with her index finger, but Priya and Mona were eagerly waiting and watching Shree. Shree cleared her throat and smiled at Shiba. Shree started singing. Shiba slowly took her hands off from ears and was astounded by her voice. Priya and Mona started applauding when she sang. Everyone followed the applause. The song was over with a great applause. Shree's eyes were on Shiba. Shiba sat silent. The programme ended. Priya came jumping to Shree "Do you mind if i kiss you". Shree twinkled "Not at all". Priya kissed her and said "You are awesome".
It was an unexpected sweet shock. Mona said Shree "It was  honey passing through all  our ears". Shree exclaimed "Oh ! Thanks Mona". The third year and second year students personally came and appreciated Shree. Though she got lot of appreciation, Shree expected a credit  from Shiba.  Shiba in a hesitation came near Shree and said "You sing very well, But why did you shout like a donkey". Shree smiled and said "I was playing with you. You know I like  to play and make fun with some people. you were the one among them. By the By ,You and Priya sing very well too". Shiba with the pretending smile saw Priya and whispered "Am I a toy to play with Stupid!".  Shree smiled.  Priya said Shiba "She is friendly and funny .I think she likes you so much. People always like to talk , laugh and tease the people whom they like so much". Shiba with a blank look said "Oh is it? Bull Shit!". Everyone went to the class. After College, She reached home.
She was waiting for Sai, but he didn't arrive that day. Some tension about the college conquered her mind from that night. First semesters exams were arriving soon. Second semester fees would be collected in the college before her exams. Her mind was not free. She couldn't sleep. 



Shree carried a Burning Coal!

Next morning , Shree started to the college. That was a sunny day. Shree was restless and was roaming inside the college campus during her breaks. She couldn't concentrate on her classes. She was sweating from her forehead. Her heart started pumping at a high speed. She went to the office and kept on asking whether she had received any courier. The office person was little annoyed as Shree  was asking the same question multiple times. The same pair of eyes  were watching her closely. The confusion and tension continued. She couldn't eat and sleep. Sai didn't arrive the next day too. . Next day in the college ,she repeated the same. The office person was little more harsh to her. However the answer for her question is "NO". She was still upset and confused for the answer. She didn't worry about the behavior of the office person as she had a better thing to worry. She noticed her name on the notice board. She got upset and went to class. She was called by the principal for the reason for not paying the fees. Again she was waiting outside the principal's room with a heavy heart. Now the reason was that she was waiting  for a cheque from her sponsor. She went inside principal's room and  explained the situation  to the principal .The principal was half convinced and gave her two days time to pay the fees. She came out with the sad face. On the way to the class , Maha ,the Student's president called Shree. She came near her depressed. Maha laughed and said "It is really happy to see  your unhappy face". Shree felt already down. She couldn't tolerate the words. Maha added salt in her wound. Shree stood silent. There are three more girls with Maha. One of the girl said "Maha. You told a  girl who insulted you. Is she ?". Maha said teasingly "Yes, The beauty of this college". and added starring at Shree "I was closely watching you two days and I know what you are waiting for. I got all
the information from office". Shree raised her eyebrows and looked her. Maha said "What ? Don't look like that , I am scared".  Shree said in a polite tone "So what you need now". Maha said "Shree. That'your name right. Don't make fun. I don't need anything. I heard from office that you are  the needy" and laughed. The other three girls laughed loud with Maha. Shree starred at Maha with eyes overflowing  and didn't talk a word back. Maha added in a harsh tone  "Being a poor you should not talk much" and tapped her fingers and said "Got it ?". Shree was depressed and was sick at heart. A Lecturer came that way. Maha and the girls were dispersed.  Shree came with the heavy heart and decided not to tell anyone about this. In the class, Shree couldn't stop thinking about the incident. Her eyes couldn't stop  producing tears. 

The lecturer instructed everyone to prepare for the semester exams and left the class. Mona called Shree. Shree stood silent. Mona said "Shree  I am talking to you" .  Shree said Mona "You prepare alone for the exams. Leave me alone and i will join you after sometime". Shiba thought Shree was  abnormal. Shiba asked Mona "What is wrong with Shree. I never seen her like this". Mona said "No idea. She said to leave her alone. After some time she will join me".
Shiba's eyes were on Shree . Suddenly something made Shiba shocked. Without Shree's knowledge tears streamed down her face. Shiba couldn't watch Shree weeping.  Shiba said Priya "Look !Shree is crying".  Both of them rushed near Shree and asked why she was crying. Mona too came near Shree. Shree choked and couldn't talk. Shiba asked  Priya to get water for Shree. Priya took her water bottle and gave her. Shree had a gulp and felt little better. Shiba asked "Now tell , what happened ?". Shree wiped her tears and explained in a trembled tone about the cheque. Shiba hugged Shree from her side "Don't worry Dear. We are all there for you. You will receive the cheque soon. Don't cry!". Priya was gratified that Shiba  understood Shree. Two days passed. Still not received the cheque. Shree was sitting in the class with the cheerless face. Mona said "Don't worry Dear. The Courier will reach you soon". She heard the news from the office that they had received the cheque. She jumped off the seat and ran to the office with an anxiety and did all the procedures and paid the fees and came back to the class room. She felt that she was carrying a burning coal in her hand when she waited for the cheque .The cheque made that fire off. But, she couldn't feel the happiness completely. She feared that it was only the second semester and there were still four upcoming semesters. Shiba and Priya were happy that Shree got her cheque. Sai arrived that evening. He said mom "I was busy with work and I am going out of station. I will come on Sunday" and bade bye to her .Shree didn't meet Sai, as she was busy in her tuition.

The Next day , Shree  came to the college brimming with confidence . She decided to give back the words which she got before. In the break , Shree said Mona , " I have work in other department ,I will go and come in another ten minutes" . Mona puzzled and said "Can i come too?" Shree said "No. I'll come soon" and left the class. She went to the third  year BBA class. It was noisy.  In a loud voice Shree said "Physics HOD wants Maha to meet her". Maha saw Shree and came sarcastically starring. Maha said "Pardon! Who called me?". Shree smiled and said "HOD of my department". Maha asked "Why?".  Shree said "How do I know?".  Maha said "Still you haven't changed .Talking much Hmmm". Shree had no expression on her face. Maha and Shree headed to the department. On the way, Shree halted and started , "Yes! I am needy and poor whatever. Do you think I don't know about you??. I know about you more than you know about me". Maha said "What you know ?". Shree added "Do not interfere when I talk.".  Maha was  disgracefully stunned and shouted  "Heloo..". Shree said "I said don't talk in between and let me finish" and continued "You are from a middle class family.  Your father is an employee in  a garment factory. You are from a different town. He sends money for your college fees and  hostel fees. Your overall percentage till last semester is 52 Pct. Don't act as if you know everything and other person know nothing if they remain silent".  Maha was about to tell something. Shree said "Stop ! I am not done". You know who I am "I am from a rich family and in between we lost all our properties.  I studied in  a great school in my town. When I was  unable to afford the school fees, The principal  of my school helped me with scholarship. I studied there till my tenth standard. I came here and finished my higher secondary and scored high marks". Now I got a sponsor for my education. I deserve this sponsorship not only because I am a needy.  It is because of my mark and talent too. Can you able to get a sponsor with your marks ? .You can't . So think before you talk . And now I tell you,  Money won't decide who you are . It is your attitude and talent decide who you are. We can make money anytime anywhere . Understand ! Now tell ,  who is the needy?" . Maha didn't expect this . Shree added "Go and tell this to all three tails of you" and left the place. Maha angrily shouted "What about meeting HOD?". Shree turned and smiled "If you are really interested to meet her. You could meet her with no reason". Maha shouted "Hey One minute , Who told you these details?".  Shree smiled and said teasingly  "The God" and headed towards her class. Maha stamped one of her feet  and  with heart full of anger went to her class. 

And Now I hear you saying  "Chella, What is the Suspense this time? ". Here comes the gist ,
There awaiting a slight headache in her tuition which is going to reveal her dignity and a big thunder awaiting to strike  her life...will Shree overcome that???

Sai's Parcel


The Next Day Akhila came home smiling. Shree asked "I can see something on your face which looks different from normal". Akhila asked "What do you see?". Shree smiled and said "A Smile" and added "You look so beautiful when you smile ,But you smile rare. So .. now tell what's the matter?". Akhila continued smiling and said  "This smile is for you, We have a good news and it is related to you". Shree exclaimed "Good news for me? Oh ! What is that? ". Akhila went to wash her hands and face. Shree ran behind her shouting "How can you do this? Tell me what it is?". Akhila said "Wait Please". Shree shrunk her eyebrows and with the serious face said " No I can't wait. You can tell that and carry on with your work " . Akhila said "I will  tell you after dinner". Shree got annoyed and went outside and sat near the door and in a loud voice " I don't want food till you tell ". Akhila came out  smiling and said " You can't control your hunger. Come in" . Shree said "No. I can ,  First you  tell me what it is?" , Akhila started in a polite tone "The School principal sent a news that you got a sponsor for your education". Shree was astounded. That was a real good  and a happy news for Shree. Shree kissed Akhila and ran inside shouting "Amma ..I am Hungry and Akhila said that she don't want food  and asked me to eat hers too ".  Akhila eyes glowed in happiness seeing Shree. Shree rushed and stood in front of Raghavendra swamy and said "You are doing your duty perfectly. Keep it up!" and took the picture in her hands from the wall and hugged tightly close to her heart.

That evening she was very busy in tuition upstairs. Sai visited her. He waited till the tuition was done. Shree looked at him and smiled and glanced a parcel in his hand. Sai said that he will wait downstairs till she come. Shree  nodded and said "Yes". After the tuition was over , Shree came down and saw Sai waiting . She totally forgot him as she was busy. Shree said "Sorry , I forgot that you were waiting. But it is already late ,You didn't leave?" Sai said "It's okay ! I don't want to leave without meeting you" and gave the parcel to her. Shree puzzled and asked " What is there in the parcel? Is it for me ?". Sai smiled and said "Yes ,the parcel is for you and guess what is inside". She had mixed feelings. She was surprised and baffled.  She felt it was a great suspense and something special waiting in that parcel. When Shree was about to open it,  Sai Said "Wait, Guess What it is!". She couldn't make out a guess. Sai don't want Shree to wait .The suspense didn't last long. He asked her to open the parcel. She opened. There came a beautiful black back bag.
The moment she saw the bag , in micro seconds she saw Sai's eyes. His eyes were waiting to see her happiness. She had a question to ask him and it was "Why?". Sai said "There were some stalls in his college for just two days and I saw this bag there. The moment I saw the bag , you came into my mind and bought this" . Shree's eyes filled with tears and Sai went inside her heart through the tears. Shree controlled her tears and her eyes were fixed on Sai.
He added "I couldn't watch a girl who is very good at studies and attitude , having a bag which doesn't suit her for the college and You deserve more than this , but all I could buy only this bag". Shree first hesitated and then accepted the gift. Mom said "Sai, Why did you buy and spend your money on this and How much is this? ,It looks expensive". Sai said "Amma, No problem ,It is just a Bag. I won't tell the cost and it is affordable. No worries" .
Sai came near Amma and fell under the feet of Mom  and said "Amma , Bless me. I got My first month Salary" . Mom gave a warm pat on his shoulders and said "Long Live. God bless you" and smiled. When Sai was talking to mom , Shree didn't take her eyes off from Sai. Sai noticed that and raised his eyebrows and asked Shree "What?". She shook her head and said "Nothing and said Thanks". While saying she was expressionless. Sai said "Go arrange your things happily in the new bag" and bade  bye to everyone and left.
Akhila  arrived and she saw the bag and asked about it. Mom said "Sai bought this bag for Shree". Akhila said "Oh ok , But why he is spending his money on this?" . Mom said "Me too asked the same question to him". Shree asked Akhila "How is the bag?". Akhila said "Hmm ..Nice ". Shree arranged all her books and things in her new bag. Akhila gave a cover with money and said Mom " Amma, Here is my first month Salary.". Shree sparkled and asked Mom "Remember my pocket money??". Mom smiled and gave her extra 10 Rupees. She got it  and put it in her bag. Next Day Shree took the bag to the college. Everyone looked her differently. But there was a difference. She proudly walked in happiness with the bag.The reason for her happiness and the pride was not the bag. It is because she thought, Other than her family,  there was one soul in the whole world who was trying to understand her feelings and make her happy. She felt that she got a great friend who was extremely caring. She decided to do something to reciprocate her affection for him. 

In the college , Mona said "Cool Bag. Good choice". Shree said "Thanks Mona,  It's Sai who bought this bag for me". Mona asked " Oh! Is it ? Fantastic. How is he ? ". Shree said "He is fine" . Mona said "Since from our eleventh standard ,You know him right?". Shree said "Yes. He came as Akhila' friend and now he became a good family friend too" . Mona said "One day I'll come home to meet him . It's  long time we met". Shree said "You are always welcome" and smiled. A voice came from behind "Hey beauty! Beautiful bag". Shree turned and It was Priya.  Priya said "The bag suits you and you look gorgeous" . Shree hugged from her side and said "Thanks , Dear". Priya asked Shiba who was standing by her side "Shiba ! Bag is too good na ?". Shiba with no interest said "Ya Good". Priya asked "I heard a name Sai. Shree Who is that?" . Shree said "He is a friend of mine . He bought this bag for me". Priya chuckled and twinkled and asked  "Is he only a friend or ...... " . Shree gave a pat on her head and said "It is a different story and He is only a friend and not anything else as you doubt and I'll tell you later about him". Priya said "Is it ?... I believed". Shree said "Oh come on! You have to". She got lot of compliments for the bag from other friends too. Shree was too happy.  Every day in the College, a  pair of eyes were closely watching Shree. Shree knows that the eyes were watching her but she ignored as if she didn't notice. After the college , On the way home , Sai's thoughts came into her mind. She remembered that Sai was about to tell her something , but was hesitating . She decided to ask about that, when he come home today.

That evening ,Though she was busy with her tuition, Her eyes anxiously waited for Sai's arrival. She came downstairs number of times to check whether Sai arrived. Shree finished her part in the tuition and asked the students to have a look at their book and also announced a test tomorrow. Students started studying. She came running downstairs. As her heart and mind filled with Sai's thoughts , Her eyes refused to send signals to her brain that Sai was standing in front. She was about to hit him. But when she heard his voice, She realised it was Sai and stopped right at the place. Sai said "Why so fast ? Careful that you don't slip down". Shree smiled and said "I was waiting for you". Sai said "Oh Really! ...Right! What about the Bag?  You like it?. Is it convenient?". Shree said "It is awesome" and thanked him again. Sai asked "what is the reason for waiting ?". Shree said Sai to come in  and said "You about to tell me something yesterday but you stopped when Amma came".  Mom said "Sai, Have this tea" and added "I got to go to the house next door and I will come in next ten minutes" and left . Sai nodded and said "Okay". Shree looked at Sai and said hurrying "This is the right time . Say it". Sai swallowed and took a break and started "Shree, Don't mistake me". Shree said "Hey No not at all, Break the suspense. You are building up so much". Sai said "I fall in love". Shree was astounded "Love , You ?...Interesting." and winked and said "Who is
the girl , I pity her". Sai said "I know you'll make fun of me . That's why I am hesitating to tell". Shree "OH ! Right. I won't" . Who is the girl ?" . Sai said "Shree ! You don't know her". Shree was more curious "Okay. Tell about your Angel! What she is doing?. Where is she ? Is she beautiful? What's her name ?". Sai said "I used to go temple every Tuesday and Friday. There I saw her. The moment I saw her , I like her so much. The girl too will look at me in a way she likes me. So I went behind her and found where she was living. A lady will accompany her.  She knew very well that I was following her and she turned and smiled at me when she reached home". Shree tittered and said "OH no , Finally you became a Road Romio. Not bad, Then??...". Sai said "So what you think about me". Shree said "You are travelling in a correct path and It seems the girl also have a crush on you". Sai was curious and said "Do you think so?" Shree said "Yes." and added  "You didn't answer my question, What is her name, How she looks? What she is doing?". Sai said "I don't know what's her name and what she is doing , But I will tell u how she looks". Shree in a playful way and tee-heed and said "Hmm Ok Tell". Sai said "She is wheatish  and had a matured face, She is not that beautiful but some thing attracted me" . Shree added "You are right. We can only admire beauty, But to get attracted and fall in love we require something other than beauty". Sai smiled and Shree added "You should investigate further about her. These information are not enough. If possible , try  to have a talk when she come to temple".
Sai said "I am nervous to talk". Shree blinked and said "No way. You have to face it.All the best". Mom came in . Sai nodded his head and left. Shree proceeded with her tuition.



The Great Ride !

That was a special day. Shree was in her tuition and she heard a bike roaring for a long time. She was irritated as it disturbed her tuition. She angrily came down with the serious face. The moment she saw the person in the bike , Her face changed. She smiled and surprised. Sai who came in cycle these days got a brand new Bike. He brought the bike to Shree's home after delivered from the showroom. As a friend , Shree was excited to see the Bike and was so happy for him. She felt as if she herself owned a new Bike. Sai parked the bike and came inside. Sai called Mom in the kitchen and said "Amma , I got new bike". Mom came out and saw the Bike and said "Congratulation Sai. The Bike is awesome". Sai asked "Akhila not yet come?. I thought , I would show her too" . Mom said "Akhila will come late today".

Shree asked him to take her a ride. Sai sat idle as if he didn't hear her. She kept on pestering him. At one point she realized he was ignoring her. She asked sadly  "Don't you take me a ride?". Sai politely refused her. There was a silence for few minutes. She complained to her mom that Sai was refusing
to take her the ride. Mom smiled. Then she turned to Sai and asked for the reason. Sai said "I have a wish that the person coming first ride with me should be my mom or my future wife. Please don't mistake me and try to understand". He convinced her but she was not convinced.
She was little annoyed and she even mocked at him for his sentiments. Whatever Sai told her, didn't reach Shree's brain and couldn't accept the reason. She thought it was an insult for her friendship. She was not ready to leave this matter as such. She stood firm on her wish and desire. Finally she made Sai  think that he hurt her feelings. She didn't do it on  purpose. It just happened. Sai said "Okay come on..  Don't get upset.I will take you" . The moment she heard those words She jumped, clapped ,laughed and ran and stood near the bike. There is no boundary for her happiness. Sai started the bike. He looked at Shree standing by side and gave a signal to sit. Shree nodded and sat behind him. There was a huge gap between Shree and Sai. Shree said " Wait for me to hold" . She held a small handle bar behind her and said "Now you can go". The bike pierced the air. Thousand butterflies flew in her heart . Sai asked "Hold my shoulders tight and not the handle bar". Shree said "That's ok. I won't fall" . The ride was over. That was an excellent ride. Shree said "Once more". Sai shook her head and said "I have work and I am leaving now". Shree got down and waived her hand. Sai left the place. Sai took her the ride because he don't want to hurt Shree for his sentiments. Shree was so happy that she got a great ride and was proud that she was the first person to sit behind him.

On that day both of them didn't realize and recognize that Sai's wish been fulfilled too!


And Now....  I can hear you saying "Thank God No Suspense this time". But there are lot and lot of suspense in upcoming episodes . Here is a gist ....There been dual emotions waiting for Shree!

SHE'S ONE OF US - CHAPTER 6

Shree's Investment

Shree reached home and entered calling "Amma..." and  saw her mom standing in the kitchen. She washed her hands and legs and went inside the kitchen. Mom said  "Here is your tea". Shree kissed her mom and said "Mom is always a Mom". She told her mom sipping the tea "Being in the kitchen ,you keep the doors open , What if someone enters the home without your knowledge?".  Mom asked "Who will enter ?". Shree in a harsh voice starring and rotating her eye balls said "Suppose a Thief  attack you". and added "Being a big fat lady you could not run fast to escape from him". Mom twist pulled Shree's ears and said  "You are making fun of me and I am going to see how you will be looking after having two kids". Shree screamed "Awwwwww...." . Mom chortled  and said "No thief will come to our home. Do not worry. There is nothing to take from here .Even,  If he comes he will pity us and will keep something for us". Shree was done with the tea and looked deeply into her mom's eyes . Mom said "What??? .It is a joke"  but Shree can feel the sadness behind the joke. She hugged mom by her side and in a gentle voice"Amma ,Don't worry, Akhila will finish her  studies in 3 months, She will go for job and our status will be little better". Shree couldn't talk seriously for long time . She said in a mischievous way "After Akhila gets a job make my pocket money double". Mom smiled and said "What about triple ?". Shree eyes became wider and said "If you wish ,you can give how much ever you want"  and kissed her again.

Shree said "Amma , What is the dinner today?". Mom said "Chappathi" . Shree exclaimed "Ahhh Chappathi, What special today?". Mom said "Nothing special, Its long time  I made Chappathi  and I got wheat at  lower price too, so decided to make it and I need your help". Shree  said "I cannot make a perfect round chappati , So you roll the dough and I'll put it in pan and cook it". Mom said "Okay!". Akhila reached home and Shree's dad too came home from work. Delicious soft Chapatis
with Dhal got ready.  Shree was sweating inside the kitchen and was hungry too. Everybody was ready to have their dinner. Mom said "Three Chapatis each and If you are still hungry , Have some rice". Shree in an unsatisfied tone, "Such a soft Chapatis , only ... three ..Hmmmm" . Shree pouted her lower lips to show her displeasure. Akhila starred at her. Shree became calm and started eating. Shree said rotating her head , closing her eyes  and in a long tone "Hmmmmmmm.. What a taste! Nobody in this world can cook this tasty, I shall buy you a golden bangle after I go for a job".  Mom smiled and said "Okay!  Eat.".  Dinner was over. Everybody was tired and went to sleep. 

Next Saturday morning, After breakfast ,Shree was sitting and doing some cutting ,pasting work with a card board. She is not very good at drawing,  But still she was doing something with that card board. She was writing something on it. Once done, Shree looked at the cardboard and said  "Not bad ..Looking good". Ahkila and Amma asked  "What are you doing?" .Shree said "Sshhhh... Watch this " and showed the card board. Akhila and Mom was happy to see the card board.  She decided to put in on an electrical post  near her home on the road side. Akhila helped her. The board was tied in the post. Shree had planned something to  support her family, but as a poor girl she had nothing to invest. 
So Shree selected a job in which she can invest her knowledge.  Shree turned and saw the board and read it "Tuitions taken for 10th to 12th  standard" and there was an arrow pointing towards her home. Shree decided to earn to support her family. Akhila said "Very Good Shree!". Shree smiled and said  "Yesterday ,When I was on the way home from college, This idea bloomed into my mind". Mom asked "You are just a first year student, I doubt students would join here as everyone is expecting a teacher who completed at least a degree". Shree said "No worries ,Lets see how it works". Akhila said "Shree,  you could definitely make it". Shree smiled and said "Akhila ,You are always great, You take classes for singing and classical dance after college and you are the college topper too. I am  nothing..  when compared to you. You are my inspiration and the role model" and added "It's my duty too to support the family and share your burden". Akhila smiled at Shree. Shree couldn't control her naughtiness at any situation. Shree lethargically said "I am giving  such a long speech but always get a smile from Akhila in return" and Shree turned to her Mom and asked , "We both were born in the same womb. I am a Chatter box but how can Akhila be like this ?? I am wondering". Akhila gave a gentle slap on her cheeks and said "I am wondering too" and said " Stop talking and do something better". Shree  sparkled  her eyes and said "I can do something better, But couldn't stop talking".

 It was 3.pm noon. Akhila started to the place where her classes been taken. She went to a public telephone booth and called  a landline number. Sai spoke at the other end. Akhila said "I am just starting. Can u come at 6.30 pm and pick me up from class and drop me in home?". Sai said  "Yes Akhila, The same place Right !" .Akhila said "Yes, Sai" and she put down the phone .She caught a bus and left.
  
Sai visited that evening. He said "Shree! Who is the tuition teacher here? I saw a board in the post". Shree shook her shoulders and said "What doubt , Its me!".  Sai said "Hey ! Good, You have the talent.Carry on". Shree smiled and thanked him. Sai asked "Where is Akhila?". Shree said "She will be busy with her singing and  dance classes and yet to come". Sai said "Oh no! I forgot, Akhila called me to pick her up, But my bicycle got punctured". Shree's Dad came in, Sai said "Appa! 
Akhila will be waiting. Can you do me a favor. Help me with my bicycle to the near by puncture shop and I will take your cycle and pick her up".  Dad said "Okay!". Sai took the bicycle and left.After an hour Sai and Akhila arrived home. 

The response for the board was awesome. The Next morning, She got a student. Days passed. One student became two ,three ......and finally it was twenty students.  The students were  all tenth standard and above. Even though she was a first year student, she handled the students and taught the lessons in a matured way.  She wanted her students to excel in each and every subject. She also taught the lessons in such a way that students themselves felt that they get high marks  only because of her tuition. As the number of students increased. She arranged the open terrace upstairs in her home to take the tuition.  She became an excellent teacher and tuition made her forget that she was a student. She had her college book by her side always. Whenever she found time in the middle of the tuition, She would also take a look at her book.  She was happy and busy doing her job. 

There was a challenge waiting for her in that too.

Actions will define you!

One Sunday morning, She was in between her tuition. A women came with a girl to meet Shree. The woman asked "I saw the Board stating about Tuition. I decide to put my  daughter in tuition for Maths" and added " My daughter is in her 3rd attempt in 10th standard as she failed in maths twice. The marks she got only 15 out of 100 and she is very weak in the subject". Shree thought it was a challenge to her and accepted it. The woman asked "Are you taking these tuitions?" in a way she did'nt  believe shree would make out this challenge. But the woman made her mind seeing the number of students in the tuition. Shree asked the girl to come from tomorrow  and asked her to bring the Maths book and a Rough book. The next day she waited for the girl. The girl arrived and she talked to her for ten minutes and then started  her lessons. The girl felt Shree was very friendly and it was easy for her to mingle with her. Shree followed her own style and magics in her method of teaching. Shree not only taught lessons but also said some inspirational stories and boosted her and kept her motivated all the time.  Days went by . The girl finished her exams and was waiting for the result.

That morning ,the woman came with the girl with a plate full of fruits , a sweet box , some money with heart full of happiness. It was just a reciprocation of love and respect towards Shree's dedication and teaching. Shree understood that the girl got passed and asked her about her score in maths. With the full mouth smile , the girl said "75 Pct". Shree congratulated her and was not surprised by her marks. The woman thanked her and pushed the girl front towards  Shree. In a twinkling time, The girl fell on her knees under the feet of Shree. Shree was shocked and scolded her to get up. Shree said "I am only two years elder to  you, How can you do this!". The girl's mom added "Whatever.. ,You are a teacher" .  The girl got tears in her eyes. They both thanked Shree and left her home.

At that point she realised and her heart said "If we need to know who we are. Don't ask ,But Act. Actions will define you". Her heart thanked the girl who made her  tuition career a mile stone. She not only earned money but a good name in a period of three months. Shree was expecting more and more to come. She became a best tuition teacher in her place. At this stage, Shree fixed a dream in her heart. She decided to do her post graduation , PHD and become a professor in a college.  Meanwhile Sai and Akhila finished their studies and joined as a lecturer in a near by college. Sai usually visits Shree's home once in two days.  These days, in this busy schedule ,Shree was always in upstairs and she couldn't meet Sai. 

That evening Sai visited her home. Sai said "Heloo Busy Bee! I couldn't see your head these days. So Busy Hmmm". Shree as usual in a playful way "Oh ya Yes! ". Shree told about the girl who joined in the tuition for maths and also about her marks. Sai was happy and congratulated Shree. Shree said "I heard you got a job  where is the treat?" Sai said "Definitely. What you want?". Shree exclaimed and with curious eyes "Really??? You can give me anything I want ?  Oh my god , My mind is not working. I will think and tell you what i need". Sai smiled and said "Okay" and  added in hesitation "I need to discuss about one thing to you, I don't know what you will think of me if I tell this". 
Shree was very curious and in a funny way said "Tell me in a way i should not mistake you"and winked. Mom came from Kitchen . Shree asked "Ok come on , Tell". Sai was shy to tell in  Mom's presence and whispered to Shree "I will tell you later". Shree said "Please tell ,No suspense Please". Mom asked "What?". Shree said in an innocent way  "He started something, But when he saw you coming , he stopped.. Amma! Ask him what it is!". Sai didn't expect this and said to Mom "Amma !She is kidding and making fun. Nothing like that, I have some work and I'll come tomorrow" .
Mom in a puzzled way said "Sai ,Come on Say what you think, Nobody will mistake you". Sai said "No Amma  ,She was really kidding". Mom smiled and said "Okay"

Sai went outside and Shree too came out and folded her hands in front and gave a gurgle laugh. Sai smiled and took his bicycle and waived his hands and left

There awaited a good news for Shree.

And Now I hear you saying "Chella is always keeping a suspense at the end". I know you are very eager to know what is the good news. All... I say is a  simple word in English "Patience"  Till Next Friday :) !!

SHE'S ONE OF US - CHAPTER 5

                       

The God is so wise!

The senior professor said "Don't be frightened!! Promise me that you will score high marks in every semester and should not get out of the college without University First Rank". Shree nodded her head and promised , as she had no option. The professor added "So.. , You promised! Keep in your mind!".  Shree bobbed her head expressionless.
Shree too had a question to ask the professor. She asked "May I know your name Madam?". The professor smiled and replied  "I am Sai lakshmi". Shree loved the name. The Professor added "Bring a rough book and a pen tomorrow. It will take another week to receive your books. See you tomorrow and all the best". Shree too smiled and nodded her head. The professor left the place. Shree saw the professor till she passed from her sight .
Shree saw Akhila waiting under a tree. Akhila waived her hand and Shree came near . Akhila asked " How was the class?" . Shree said " The class was too good and I saw Mona in the class". Akhila was happy that Shree got a companion. Shree told Akhila to wait at the entrance till she takes her cycle. Shree proceeded to the cycle stand to get her cycle. Shree heard a  finger tapping and turned back. There Shree was dazed and scared by a tall and stout girl.
In a dominating rough voice the tall girl said "Hello ...Which class?" Shree was little nervous but still managed to answer. She answered "Physics". The tall girl added "So you will answer only to the point . Is it ? " and in a tyrannical way "Tell me which year?". Shree was annoyed by the way she spoke and said "First year..Can.I  ask one thing.Who are you ? and Why are you questioning me?". The tall girl couldn't tolerate Shree questioning her  and said teasingly "Oh ya ...you know you look beautiful . I have a brother and we are looking for a girl for him and so I 'm asking your details". Shree starred  at her and in a corrosive tone "What.....! Ex....cuse me". The girl started cursing her in the local language. Shree was clueless and added in a polite tone  "Please Stop it!  and what you actually want from me .Tell me please!" The tall girl in a bitter tone "Now you came to the point. You have parked the cycle in the wrong place. This is the place for Arts students".  She pointed her  fingers to a location and said "That is the place where you need to park ". Shree ,in a lethargic way  "Ohhhhh.. .You came to the point finally .Ok ! sister. Just Today I joined the college and I am not aware where to park. This won't happen tomorrow. Thanks for guiding me. By the By You are so kind and beautiful ". The tall girl glowered  and said "I am a third year student and you are ragging me Hmmmm.. ". Shree smiled and said  "Absolutely Not , What I said is true" The tall girl with the black look said rasped  "Hey First year Physics!!. You  are going to be here for the next three years. We'll meet".
Shree couldn't control her laughter and said with the glittering eyes "Ok sister!!.With your permission Can i leave now ". The tall girl hated Shree to the core and said "You have lot of guts to speak like this to a senior".  Shree smiled and said  "That was a compliment for you and not me ,Because I rebuked  in the same way as you did".
The tall girl starred at her as if she want to kill Shree. Shree said "ooops !! Don't look like that !! Ok ..ok Sister .Sorry If i hurted you. Bye Bye!" The tall girl in a pretended smile said "Sorry wont save you".  Shree chuckled and said "Bye!. See you tomorrow" and left the place.
Shree rode  the cycle with Akhila sitting at the back. Shree murmured "Too much of weight. I couldn't ride" . Akhila annoyed of Shree and got down from the cycle and said "I will ride. You please sit at the back". Shree said "I am saved. Thank you .Here you go" . Akhila rode the cycle and Shree blabbered something to Akhila but Akhila was concentrating on the road. Both reached home.
 Shree entered the home and stood before a framed picture and closed her eyes and started talking to it.  She said  "It is because of you I am here. I believe you always offer me the best and I will accept it, But one condition you should give the strength to face whatever you render. I also trust that you will definitely bless me with that too" She opened her eyes. It was her Raghavendra swamy smiling at her. She too smiled at him and raised her index finger and in a commanding tone "Never expect thanks from me .I wont thank you .It is your duty to save me from struggles" and sparkled her eyes at him.
Everyone in the family was happy but  sister Akhila said "I'm so happy that you got the seat but i couldn't enjoy the happiness completely because you couldn't make your dream come true". Shree smiled and said "No Akhila , I feel this in a different way. You know God is so wise. If I would have got this seat so easy, I would not be  happy and satisfied and would bethink of my engineering dream and could not perform and excel well. My mind would always reminisce the illusion which didn't happen. Shree paused for a second. Sorrow of disappointment conquered her face in a fraction of  second ,but she changed her mind the next moment and continued  " If that is the case , I will regret the rest of my life. Now my mind is clear and ready for the opportunity whatever I get and make best out of it. The God made me understand the value of what I got. I respect this seat very much and now I am in the seventh heaven.". When she said she was happy , She really meant it.  Her mind ,heart and her body was so clear and she felt very light.
There was an interruption. The tall boy, with dark complexion , with a spark in eyes and smile in his lips entered the home.  Akhila said "Hi Sai". Sai said "Hi Akhila". The Boy who helped her with the fees was none other than Sai.  He came smiling  and  glanced a second at Shree  and turned to Akhila  and said "I heard the world's naughtiest girl got the seat at last". Shree smiled and came near him and thanked him. Akhila added "It was a timely help Sai ,We won't forget this. Thank you so much" . Sai said "Oh Come on  ...What is this Akhila . Stop thanking me .I am a part of this family and its my duty to help when needed". Shree's  mother also thanked Sai and Sai said  "Amma .Don't mention it please..". Mom smiled at him and said " Now i don't have the feel that I don't have a son" . Sai smiled and said "Always .....Where is Appa ?". Mom said "He was out with some work and will come late today ". Sai nodded his head.
Akhila was happy to hear the words spoke by Sai and smiled. Akhila asked him "Tea ?" . Sai smiled and told "Dont Ask.Act !" Akhila went to prepare tea. Shree said to Akhila in a playful tone "One for me too... You know First day college made me so tired and everybody's attention was on me" .She  twinkled  and rolled her eyes " I was the center of attraction . As I attracted everyone my energy got exhausted  and I need to boost my energy now." . Akhila starred at her and said "Oh God ..Shree You can tell me in a simple way that you need Tea . I couldn't... Please..." . Sai laughed and asked Shree  "Ok start your stories and I am very eager to hear your experiences of your first day in the college. Shree smiled and said  "Me too waiting for someone to ask this question".  She talked and talked about everything, the college campus,the professor, the class ,Mona ,Mina,Shiba and Priya and friends from first bench to the last bench and finally the tall scout girl in the cycle stand and the conversation with her. Sai was more curious and said " So you got a villainess".  Shree giggled and said "No No..No She is a dummy  and Villain is a big word . She is not worth it"
Sai said nodding his head  " This is the first day.... that to half a day college , You become a Little Don" . Shree stood up and shook her shoulders and said in a rhythmic tone "Thank you ,that was a credit"  and she jump walked to the kitchen ". Sai in a loud voice  "Hey I am Kidding". Shree again in a rhythmic tone " okay....  what...ever ,Here.. is... your... tea" . She had two cups of tea in either of her hands .When Sai about to take the tea , she pulled back her hands and said  "Wait! I can see more tea in this cup ,So this is for me and the less tea is for you"..She smiled and sparkled her eyes and said "Energy ...Energy..." Sai smiled.
Shree kept her tea down and started doing actions with her hands  and said  "In the class We sit like this ...... Mona, Minu, Shree, Shiba and Priya. The class was awesome. I love it. There is a lecturer who was so serious and I need to coach her how to smile.... Hey... I forgot to tell you one thing .You know what is the name of the senior professor ?  Her name is Sai Lakshmi.and i was so happy when I heard the name".  Sai smiled at her and  watched her silently. Her eyes,her lips, her cheeks were blushing in happiness. Sai was totally impressed by her attitude.
With the heart full of happiness that evening,  Sai bade bye to everyone in home. Shree asked "Ok ok Bye but Where is the tea cup??" Sai shrinked his eyes and bite his lips and pretended as if he was annoyed . Shree said " Ahhh ! Here I found the tea cup , Now you can go" Sai went near her smiling and gave a gentle pat on her head and left the place.
It was 10 pm, After the dinner , Everybody in home was about to sleep . Shree went to her bed accepting the present and  expecting a bright future awaiting. She thanked God and  looked her bed. The same pillow which  received all her sorrows was smiling at her to share her happiness too.
She was lying down and suddenly the Professor's face appeared and reminded  the promise. Shree fixed a dream in her mind that night.  Her heart said "You shouldn't get out of the college without the  University First Rank as the professor said. She was gazing the ceiling for a long time and she don't know when she slept.
Next morning , Shree hurried for the college "Amma , It is already late ,Give me the Lunch".  Mom said "You get ready first! and it will be ready in another ten minutes". She chose a dress from the shelf . She said to the dress "You look old , but if  I wear you ,You will be pretty and look like a new one" and went to the bathroom. She came out and looked at the mirror and something missing on the face. She started shouting "Where did the Bindi packet go  ,Oh My Safety pin...". She screamed "Ammmmmaaa......This Akhila is irresponsible , Always taking the Bindi packet and keeping it some where else and Now I m struggling .It is already late and  will take 20 minutes to reach the college" . Mom was so busy in making lunch and pretended as if she didn't hear Shree.
Shree said in a satisfied tone "Ssshh . Ok ....There you are .. The Eye liner .Thank God i got u " . She drew some small round with the liner between her eyebrows. She looked at the mirror and smiled  and said "Not ..Bad". She got the lunch from her Mom and went near the picture of Raghavendra Swamy and said "Remember What I said ?, Do your duty perfectly. " and smiled.
Shree took a old note book and a pen in a Bag and her Lunch too. Mom gave her ten rupees. She took her cycle and started to the College. The Bag was not a back bag. The bag was little odd as it would be taken  by her mother to her groceries shop. It was 9.15 am Shree reached the college. The tall scout girl saw Shree and Shree too saw and she smiled and waived her hand, The tall girl raised one of her eyebrows and starred at her. Shree parked the cycle and saw everyone standing in  a closed ground for the prayer. When everyone in the college had their shoulder bags, Shree was looked differently by  her friends. Some people even mocked at her for the bag. But she was not upset or ashamed to have that bag, Instead she was happy that God had given her at least that bag. She walked proudly with the bag.

In the closed ground , there was a little stage where three girls standing with the Microphone and was ready to sing the prayer song . Girls were arranged in a line according to the class. Shree saw Mona and joined her class's line. There awaited a shock , The tall scout girl with the harsh voice was standing in the middle of the two girls. She whispered to Mona "What is this Mona?" and in a scared tone " Is she going to sing?" . Mona said "SShhh .., She is a senior .Please we'll talk later".  Meanwhile Shiba overheard that conversation and started to giggle. After the prayer,  on the way to the class Shiba laughed and said Mona "Your friend has a big mouth and she talks too much". But she didn't notice Shree standing her behind. Shree rushed in between them and said Shiba "You are awesome .You understood me completely. I like you. I like to talk and laugh and let us all become a gang". Shiba didn't expect this ,She was upset that Shree heard what she said and slowly moved out. Mona started laughing . Shree again asked Mona "Who is that tall scout girl in the middle who had a  very sweet voice??" Mona laughed and laughed and said "Stop making fun .Her name is Maha ,Third year BBA and she is the Student's president" . Shree said "Ohhhh !!  and winked and said "But being a Students president is not a qualification to sing . In this big college ,Is there no one who can sing good???" . Mona said "You are right ,What can we do ? We are just in our First year". Shree said "So what ??  Something need to be done soon ?  Can't hear this voice anymore" and ended with the long breath.

The tall scout girl heard Shree saying the last  words as she was commanding the girls to go to the class . Shree didn't expect this . Mona grabbed Shree's hands  tightly and whispered "That's why i told you to keep your mouth shut". Shree blinked and smiled puzzled and said "Good morning Honorable President". The tall girl starred at Shree and asked Mona "What your friend saying ?" Mona said in a convincing way "Sister , She was telling that you sing very well " Shree saw Mona in a shocking way and whispered "How can you tell a big lie like this". Mona couldn't tolerate Shree anymore . Mona grabbed Shree's  hand and pulled her to the class. Shree and Mona rushed to the class and both  laughed looking each other again and again . Shree asked "Where is Priya ?". Shiba said  "Priya missed her bus and came late . As a late comer ,she should pay a  fine of Rs 50 and need to run two rounds in the ground".  Shree said "Ohhhh .my God. I feel pity for Priya.". Priya entered the class after 5 minutes .Shree exclaimed "You are done with two rounds in five  minutes?? " .Priya in a mischievious way "I escaped from the Physical Training teacher" . Shree was very eager  and asked "How ?" . Shiba answered the question  "Girl !! She is a big Cheater and a fraud " .Priya winked her eyes and whispered in Shree's ears "That is a trick ,I will teach you Shree" .Shree smiled.
The Lecturer came in . The class started. Everybody listened. The college was over. Shree felt the day was over in a fraction of second. Everybody bade bye to each other and left the college and Priya said "See you on Monday. Enjoy the weekend" . Shree smiled and waived a special bye to Priya.
On the way to Home , Shree was pondering something and there came an idea bloomed in her mind.
